Writers who come to the craft later often have a distinct advantage: they know people. They have lived through loss, reinvention, compromise, and joy — and they can write about these things with an authenticity that resonates deeply with readers.
They also tend to be more disciplined. Having balanced careers, families, and other responsibilities, they understand the value of the writing time they carve out and use it well.
